Who we are
Alpha is striving to improve the quality of life of people suffering from pain and distress caused either by incurable conditions of diseases or by bad accidents, without discrimination irrespective of race, religion, caste, creed or political affiliation.
Alpha Palliative Care is the largest home based Palliative Care provider in India, based in the southern state of Kerala. Having established 15 palliative Link Centres and 2 hospices, all owned and operated by the local community, Alpha is striving to improve the quality of life of people suffering from pain and distress caused either by incurable conditions of diseases or by bad accidents, without discrimination irrespective of race, religion, caste, creed or political affiliation.
Palliative care involves providing specialized medical care for people with serious illnesses beyond curable limits and providing psycho-social and spiritual support to the patient and the family. It focuses on providing relief from the symptoms of the disease. The goal is to improve quality of life for both the patient and the family.
Alpha Palliative Home Care Service is delivered at the door step of the patient at the hour of the need. This is facilitated by 6 doctors, 15 Physiotherapists, 24 physio assistants, 55 palliative trained qualified nurses and other staff members using a fleet of 31 vehicles – all working on full time basis! All the services including palliative medicines are provided free of cost but without receiving any financial support from government. This is unparallel in the world!
We would like to extend these services to other states of India, starting with Gujarat in west, Orissa in east and Uttar Pradesh (UP) in north by way of an approach through University Students, Teachers, NSS and NCC.
Students Association of Palliative Care (SAPC), an initiative of Alpha Charitable Trust, the parent organization of Alpha Palliative care, has been mobilizing students, teachers and youth for Palliative Care, from October 2006. The Initiative has achieved its initial objective of enhancing awareness and commencing small projects in the educational institutions through Palliative Clubs. The geographical reach is now increased to cover some states in India and Gulf Countries.
We are pleased to note that student delegates and faculty members from Gujarat, Orissa, UP, Gulf Countries and Kerala are coming to attend the 5-day National Conference commencing from 14 August 2019 in Thrissur with a schedule of programme as narrated in the Call Letter. On behalf of the trustees of Alpha Trusts, patrons, directors, sponsors, donors, volunteers of Alpha Palliative Care, Board Members of Alpha Palliative Council UAE, Alpha Link Centres & Hospices, Students Association of Palliative Care (SAPC) and Alpha Care Home you are cordially invited to visit the website of SAPC (www.sapcindia.org) and make registrations to the conference as well as the competitions at the earliest.
Let us work together for a compassionate world order!
Lots of love and respects,
Chairman, Alpha Trusts & SAPC
